Ophelia of Denmark

Ophelia of Denmark
The fair Ophelia! — Nymph, in thy orisons
Do not, as some ungracious pastors do,
Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven,
Whiles, like a puff'd and reckless libertine,
Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads.
And recks not his own rede.
Ophelia, scene iii

Ophelia was never, admittedly, my favorite Shakespearean girl. I often found her weak and desperate, but after a long discussion with my professor, I realized that I was seeing (and even worst, judging) the fictional character with a XXI century perspective. It shouldn't be that way!

At the same time, personal events and a ridiculous enthusiastic position towards my Art History classes made me reconsider Ophelia as a character, as a woman, as a tragedy.  Thank you, Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood!

In an attempt to make Ophelia relatable to my contemporary perspective, I aimed to depict Ophelia's reaction after Hamlet's rejection.
